Forum: GratefulDead Subject: Re: Top guitarists not mentioned (underrated?)

Steve Cropper
Charlie Christian
Jim Hall
Larry Coryell
Ali Farka Toure
Boubacar Traore
K. Gyasi
Ray Kane or Raymond Kaleoalohapoina'oleohelemanu Kane
Sonny Chillingworth
Martin Simpson

and Gabor Szabo, even though I mentioned him in the previous thread, I'll bring him up again since he is so underrated, if not unknown by many . . . Gabor Szabo the Hungarian jazz guitarist who moved to California and played with Charles Lloyd, Ron Carter, Tony Williams, Jim Keltner and Bobby Womack among others. He wrote 'Gypsy Queen' that Santana tagged onto 'Black Magic Woman'. His albums often contain cheesy cover tunes and 'guilty pleasures' but any guitar heads should check out his live album from 1967 'The Sorcerer', especially 'Mizrab' and 'Space' - yes, he called this improv track Space. Great stuff. I can easily see his influences in the playing of Bill Frisell, Garcia, Santana and others.
